Hi there, I ride a carrera fury 2010 model with a mavic 317 wheel and has a m475hub. Could someone recommend me a good deal on a new rear wheel , even the same one if possible as I got good wear out of the one I had. Would like to keep it cheap as I intend to change the bike in late summer.
Thanks

Have you tried merlin cycles? Last time I looked they were doing decent deals on wheels
  • Just had a look thanks , but it seems most good deals are out of stock and I'm not really that sure on what is a like for like replacement.
  • Thanks but my front wheel is 15mm through axle. Seems good deal though.

Have a look at Superstar's wheels. Their own brand rims are very cheap.

Can I ask what is wrong with the current wheel? Might be able to fix it rather than buying a new one?
  • Well the hub is running very rough so had a friend look at it . He said it was on its way out but he greased the bearings and said I could probably get a few more months out of it . I have got at least that but its making lots of noise now and I just noticed yesterday that there is a spoke snapped too.
Will have a look at Superstar's wheels too. Any specific one that would be similar to what I have ?
    Thanks.

You may get away with buying just a new rear hub and spoke then. You'll be able to change all the bits apart from the NDS cup. Crc have one for about 10 quid last week which should be PnP with your setup. Lbs for a spoke.

Indeed, you could fix that for about £11-13.

New rear hub from CRC, replace bearings and cones (and cups although they are usually fine) and one spoke (50p-£1).

New wheel is overkill unless you want to replace the wheels anyway, is so what is your budget, SS do a big choice!

  • Thanks for that. Just left it with lbs there and they are going to repair it . I thought my type of hub was not serviceable or repairable being fairly cheap.
Thank again, will save me a few bob.

The Shimano hubs are probably the most repairable you can buy! While the M475 is fairly basic it is not cheap (compared to Promax, quando or Formula), even using an LBS it should be less than £30, maybe £35 at a push.
