    Long distance.

She's not very happy about it.

I thought she'd be glad of the break. Whilst the cat is away...What did Katie Holmes say when she split from Tom Cruise?

"Great. Now the midget is out of the way, it's time to get me hollowed out like the Queens-Midtown Tunnel!"

So, yeah, no parallels there. No sirree.

ii thought you were Dutch and down with the sharing and the swinging and the swapping? How very unimaginative....

You don't want to know what she's been up to. And she doesn't want to know who you shared those beautiful Manhattan sunsets with... Thems the rules.

    Going quiet?
    That's not positive progress.

On a serious note, try not to socialise with work.
Get in with the locals. Not easy in the time scale.

Treat it as a working holiday and fit in as much as you can.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Congrats! I'm moving there too, after the summer. Going to live in Brooklyn, work in Midtown, and plan to cycle. Getting visas for my UK colleague is a hassle but I have a US PPort, rather useful. There is an endless amount to do in NYC and the locals tend to be super friendly. If you're going single, maybe live downtown? Cheaper now that the banks have moved up to midtown. Depends on your budget really.

Seems the future of Recruiting is in the States.....

Lived in both Philly and NYC (Manhattan) and found cycling much easier than in the UK but the endless traffic lights are / were tedious. In Philly I seem to recall doing lots of lefts (can turn on a red) and then trying to get back to where I was actually going.

    Greetings from NYC.

    Glorious weather here.

Any tips on not spending a small fortune on food? Cooking is not really an option given the hardware available in my flat.

Salad? Seriously - you haven't got a functioning kitchen? I would hate that for 3 months!

ISTR a lot of food vans, esp. those serving falafels. If you've the usual baby belling, kettle & toaster of a bedsit, then it's simple one-pot food at home, usually featuring eggs and/or pasta. Shirley it's not been that long since you were a student?

Learn to live on doughnuts. And insist that vendors change to the English spelling.

Right! Now that Rick's pretty much occupied with finding the cheapest cwawfee and hot dawgs and stuff, who's gonna kick it all off? At the very least, it'll be 5 hours in before he realises a full-blown forum war is taking place!
