Are 18" calves considered big?

'cos I apparently have calves over 18" round....

This might explain the retching noises coming from my non-cycling mates whenever they see them. Or it might be something else...

I think cycling too much makes us deformed... I may not actually care about this, merely offer it as an observation.

    What about 28" thighs?
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

I have those thighs so, not that big. Might be afraid to measure calves as they are stupid big looking.

How many are going to be getting the tape measures out?
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

yeah, just did. or rather used the flex on my headphones and an A4 sheet of paper. My scientific approach leads me to believe I have 18" calves. Yes, they're considered big, in that people have told me I have big calves. These people tend to be those that can climb hills far quicker than me or don't cycle.

Mine are 16", and my scientific survey (sample set: 1) shows 18" are well above average.

i'm quite larger than A4.. :? not attempting to find another measurement device, sod it..
why would it matter? always had large ones before I commuted & barely cycled, could the physio/doc type people please explain if this would be beneficial at all to cycling. i may be tempted to measure some string then

Surely its all relative to bodyweight.. I'm jealous as mine are only 16" at 70kgs in weight.

It's all relative as some have pointed out. 18" calves with a 30" waist is impressive. 18" calves with a 40" waist not so much.

Don't know about calves but I've decided I have thin ankles... Both my overshoes are baggy round the ankles even with the Velcro as pulled tight as it will go...

Ok. Calf now measured at 16". I've decided that the rule is your calf size should be the same as your shirt size, on the entirely scientific basis that mine is.

Can I recommend NOT using duct tape as a measuring device

17" here & I've always thought my calves looked small.

Don't, whatever you do, try mentioning muscle size in "Road - Training" All that I can imagine is that the regulars over there are blessed with very very small manhoods :lol:

I can confirm that I am definitely on the puny side. Waist bigger than Dhope and calves smaller. That's why I'm so slow.

    That's OK if you're 6' 7" - less good if you're 5' 7"

At 17", mine are precisely half my waist size and a shade (1/2") above my shirt size. I'm 93kg & 6'

My calves aren't freakish in size, but they look slightly ridiculous given how sinuous they are. And I have a varicose vein, which will be a beauty when I'm 50-odd.
