Cycling holiday in Tuscany - help please!

I am going with 6 others (varying ability) from my cycling club to Tuscany in September to watch the World Championships and also do a fair bit of cycling. All we've done so far is booked return flights to Pisa. We now need to find a villa for our stay that will be in a good location to do some cycling from, but also fairly easy for getting to and from Florence to watch the World Champs, ideally by bike.

Any suggestions on a good location to base ourselves? We don't currently intend to hire a car so need to be fairly near to at least a village with some amenities.

I have had a look around the internet but cannot find any good resources for discussing cycling routes in Tuscany. Any links to such sites would be welcome. Same applies to any general advice or feedback about your experiences of cycling in Tuscany.

There's quite a lot of information around. The most useful sites are probably the Siena tourism site Terra Siena Bici, the Costa degli Etruschi site for the Livorno area, and Cicloturismo Maremma for the Grossetto area (this last one seems to be only in Italian).

You could also buy the Cycline Tuscany Cycling Atlas, which has a reasonable selection of routes and useful mapping.
