Crash damage

Hi - Nasty crash yesterday (see Road General for more details if interested) and my Garmin Speed/Cadence sensor was twisted round the NDS chainstay in the impact. Its done some damage but it looks to me like it only removed the paint and laquer and gave a light scraping to the surface of the Alu (Spesh Sectuer if it helps). I reckon it's just cosmetic but would appreciate your opinions folks. Haven't had time to give bike a clean and inspect it properly (sore shoulder ribs and head - god bless Tramadol!) so hopefully no more damage will appear when I do.

    Cosmetic...
I'd be more worried about the concave rim...

Hard to tell from the photos (always is though, not having a go at your photography skills) but looks OK and a simple enough fix. Luck its only only on the white painted section as you should be able to get away with not needing to touch up any of the red if you tape it off before a light sanding down.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

Thanks ugo - you are joking aren't you? (sorry to ask and I do see the  but hefty doses of Tramadol may be making me paranoid)

It looks concave from here, might be an optical effect... how many miles you have on it? Any wear indicator?

  • Feck me ugo I knew you knew your stuff when it came to wheel building but this is super impressive and many many thanks for spotting that!!!

Its an Open Pro rim ugo with 1416 miles on it (many of those were dirty country road winter miles though) - always been used with Koolstop Salmon pads and I do clean them up from time to time. AFAIK Open Pro rims don't have wear indicators but from the photos hopefully you can see there is a degree of concavity on them - any advice?

Plenty of life in it... it was just an effect of the lens on the other photo
