Going backwards - with cleats

I have been suffering for the last 3 months with a foot problem both on and off the bike. The condition is called mortons Neuroma and is basically an inflammation of a nerve at the base of your metatarsal bones (towards the foot) I am able to relieve the pain in my regular shoes by wearing orthotics that take the weight off the ball of my foot (where the pain is) and moving the weight towards the back of my foot.
This is great for walking but not for cycling as cycling shoes and cleats are designed to sit around the ball of the foot applying greater power transfer. This isn't good for me though as i need to relieve pressure from the ball of my foot and move it backwards.
My podiatrist recommended moving my cleats back from the ball however my shoes don't seem to have that option. Does anyone know of any solutions for this as i can't find anything online apart from some rather expensive speedplay pedals that have an additional plate for the cleat moving it back a bit.
If anyone has any experience of this or any ideas please let me know, getting a bit desperate to get back on the bike now.
