Anterior knee pain: What to do about it ?

I never had knee pain in all the time ive been cycling and the frontal left knee pain only started after Id used road shoes and spd-sl pedals :x Thankfully I went straight back to SPD pedals and SPD shoes. If I stand on my right leg and bend my left leg back up and grab and ankle to pull it up to do quad stretching I can feel a little bit of discomfort in the front of that kneecap. Similarly when I put on my left sock and the act of bending that knee upwards to get said sock on, I can feel a little niggle of pain in the front of that kneecap.

My right knee gives me no trouble whatever and I have a foam roller which I use on my quadriceps and IT Bands along with doing hamstring stretching to try and improve my flexibilty. Ive been putting a pack of frozen peas on the troubled left knee cap twice daily and have taken anti-inflammatory tablets to try and help.

I know myself that im guilty of pushing gears that are too high for uphill bits in attempts to build up leg strength and ive really got to try and spin more in order to take some of the load off the knees, but realistically, what action(s) should I be taking to prevent this getting any worse and sort it out ?

You should see a decent sports physio who will do the right diagnosis, accept that you want to actively participate in sport and give you the right kind of treatment/recovery programme.

    Best of luck.

Get a foam roller and hit your IT band for starters.
the deeper the section the deeper the pleasure.

Sorry, but that's pointless. You don't need to 'build up leg strength' - don't confuse strength with fitness. No wonder your knees are fcked if that's what you are doing...
