Hi ,

Ive bent &buckled my Shimano SLX (M662) rear mech, buying a new one off CRC , want to buy like for like but cant work out if my current (bent one) is medium or long cage, I cant see any distinguishing numbers on the mech , the distance between the jockey axles is 80mm.

    Triple front? Go long
  • Yes triple front 9speed rear,

I dont want to buy a long if the old one was medium as then the chain length (and therefore whole set up) will be out of whack and ill prob need to buy a new chain.

You will have a long cage ATM.
  • After some google image searches i think mine is actually the medium (GS)

    heres mine

and heres a website with pics of both sizes

note the length of the slits on teh cage between the jockeys - The sgs looks waaay longer.

    Agree ?

This mech was fitted, bought at and chosen by my LBS, So if it is the wrong size its thier fault.
Saying that, i never had any shifting complaints before it got bent.

No idea really. You need to go back to basics. Big-granny + big rear-small rear and look on the tech docs to see what each'll cover.

It's probably bent because it should have been long cage.

Just ordered the slx from crc myself. I have triple crank with 9 cassette and gone for long cage. Think if you had medium you wouldn't of been able to go get the chain on the large front to large rear, the mech would of been too stretched.
