I currently own a giant defy composite 1 with ultegra compact.. it has an 11-28 cassette on it and also has a med/long cage as opposed to the short cage that it was supplied with.. im finding that on a lot of hills im in want of another gear to drop down too( im not superfit and the climbs are quite long). would a sram 11-32 rear cassette be compatible? :?

If your rear mech in the latest 6700 version, then biggest sprocket it can cope with is 30 tooth - it's down to the distance between the mounting bolt and top pulley. A 9 speed Shimano MTB rear mech will allow you to run a 32, (but not a 10 speed as the cable pull actuation ratio is different)
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Yeh it is the latest 6700 rear mech as i had the short cage but had to have it replaced under warranty as it seized and they replaced it with the newer longer cage.. so i can go with the ultegra 6700 12-30 cassette.. that'll do nicely.. cheers
