I have been riding a Scott cr1 comp road bike (carbon frame) and it has the standard Alex rims and continental tyres. I want to upgrade to a worthwhile wheel/tyre upgrade? I'm prepared to spend £200-£400 on wheels/ tyres, any ideas what to buy, whether to go tubeless etc
Any experienced upgrade's or recommendations appreciated. My current preference is Fulcrum Racing 3s

Probably Campagnolo Zonda or Fulcrum Racing Quattro if you want to do tyres and wheels for under £400. Both wheels seem to be very well rated in value terms. They look good too :). Zonda's available for £252 at Ribble today but looks like campag only.

All Ribble's Campag offerings seem to be with Campag freehubs.

Cheers guys - I have a Shimano set up so not interested in the Campagnol range but the Quattros look very interested ones I had not considered.
Presumably that's a great compromise between the Racing 3 & 5 in terms of cost, weight & performance. Also the Quattros have the added benefit of the deep rim Aero look & feel!

Well campag scriocco's or Racing 3's would be good prebuilt options. For similar money you could have handbuilts that have lighter rims and spoke count wold depend partly on yor weight. Hubs could be anything from Miche to campag record. Good rims would be Velocity A23's, H plus Son Archetypes, DT Swiss RR415/465. It's preety easy to bild a set of wheels that is lighter/same weight as a "factory" set and be easier/cheaper to repair and possibly cheaper too.

Alot of the factory wheels use low spoke counts and high mass rims. This is the wrong way round imo.
