Help please, Giant Rapid 4

Hello everyone,
I'm currently in a sticky situation, family members bought me a Giant Rapid 4 2013 model, the only problem is its not my size! I'm 5ft 11, which means I should be a M/L.
Is this a big problem? I haven't received it yet and my little brother has told me they can't return it.
Can I make adjustments to the bike to help? I just use it to ride to work and some very short distance triathlons.
Next question is I'm moving to fleet and the best route I've been told is along the Basignstoke canal, does anyone know of any tyres I can place onto to this bike for extra grip rather than road tyres?
Well as you can tell I'm clueless about these things, so if you could keep it simple for me. That'll be great help!
Thank you so much in advance

Hi there.
Sorry to hear that. Maybe members on this site can help if you can tell them what is the current size of the bike?0 -
if it is a small you can put a longer stem on and a setback seat post if not one already and have the seat raised up high but depends on the geometry and acutally how too small it is. Hopefully it is just a little too small rather than being too big as it gets pretty difficult to downsize a frame using adjustments or components.0
