Feeling a bit morbid today. What tickles your fancy and why? I'm currently undecided.

And would you donate your organs?

  • neither thrown in ditch in the countryside for me.

if i was forced to choose, cremated as i used to be scared sh*tl*ss as a kid of being buried alive ina coffin, having seen som horror film or something, and reading about victorians having bells linked to coffins so if they woke up thye could alert people that they were stilla live despite being 6 foot under. still spooks me thinking about it.

not sure how i feel about organ donations. its a great cause, i cant think of any reason why not to, but for some irrational reason ihave a bit of doubt that i cant explain. i plan to have worn my organs out hopefully when my tiem comes.

Resomation is the new cremation, doncha know :)

On a more serious note, IMO no one that isn't prepared to donate their organs should be eligible to receive an organ donation themselves should the need arise.

Harvest anything and everything that can be reused ... burn the rest.

After my body has been stripped for whatever might be useful, cremate me. And sprinkle my ashes under an oak tree.

Are there any alternatives to burial and cremation that wouldn't feel so...well final?

Harvest anything they want, dissect me for medical teaching/research then bury the remains under an oak tree sapling.
  • When the reaper calls, I want my mortal remains to end up in some own brand frozen lasagne or value burgers.

Failing that, just feed me to the pigs, Errol.

I don't think it's burial or cremation that are anywhere near as final death itself :?

For me, a funeral pyre as per native Americans (Red Injuns to you Frank  ) and my ashes sprinkled on Beeley Moor :)

This. Although if medical science can use anything that's left, they're welcome to it before throwing me on the fire.

Burial seems such a waste of space to me. Once I've finished with my body, it's just dead meat.

Cremation, once they've had everything that's of any use off me. They've been having a pint of blood off me for years so they may as well carry on and use the rest. Re eyes, do they want my glasses as well? Not much use without tbh.

Wifey did ask once whether I wanted to be buried or cremated (presumed dead). The only thing I could think to say was "Surprise me!" :D

It's a fair question, but I'm not sure I'd go that far. It's a little different - after death there's no conceivable need for your organs any more, so refusing to donate organs is different from not donating blood, for which there can be all sorts of reasons - not all of which good, I'd readily concede.

In my case, I gave blood once, and felt ill and exhausted for nearly two months afterwards. I've often thought I should try it again, but chickened out every time.

I'm the same about organ donation, there's something about being chopped up when I'm dead that I don't like but can't really rationalise.

Harvest me and reduce the remains to ash on the wind.

Burial is just so very arrogant.

One thing that would really p*iss me off would be my next of kin overruling my decision. I've promised to come back and haunt them mercilessly if they do.

  • organ harvest then a sky funeral (as per various cultures, including in some parts of the Himalaya)- left on a plynth on top of a big pole for the vultures to come and pick my bones.

I am rather serious about this one, to the disgust of Mrs Onion.

I'm liking this. I'll get some quotes for us.

On average, whole body cryropreservation costs about $150,000. Neuropreservation is somewhat cheaper, averaging about $90,000. Some companies also charge an annual membership fee while you’re still alive. These fees average around $500/year.

Additionally, you may pay an additional premium of up to $10,000 for a “standby team” that is by your side as you die who quickly get your brain in a state that has the best probability of being revived intact in the future. (Google “brain vitrification” for more information)

The best part of me was left on Beeley moor when we were last up there fella.

However, of the bits that are left, any useful organs would be willingly donated, my hips can be weighed in for scrap and the rest can either be burnt or sent for medical science.

Oh! an if I pop mi clogs before Random man he can have all me bikes, bike tools and paraphernalia.

Interesting, but you need to be cremated first and then the ashes are buried in the urn. I'd rather just be buried with a tree planted on top.

For a while I was keen on donating my body to science, but then I found out that some bodies (and bits of) are used to develop weapons, so I went off the idea.
