is it possible to put a 9 or 10 speed cassette on 8 speed hub, bike has got 3 x 8 , want to make it either 3 x 9 or 3 x 10 , also do I necessarily need to change crankset for such upgrade ? Thanks

Yes....same freehub takes 8,9 and 10 speed cassettes.

Many people use 9speed cranskets with 10speed, and 8 speed with 9, but 8 to 10 may push your luck....try it and see.

glad to hear that , thanks !
  • Ive gone from 8 to 9.

The front and rear mech work okay with 9 speed shifters, but they are on the limit. So shifting to the gear either end of the cassette isn't always the smoothest

LOL, the rear mech for 8 and 9 speed is the same as the gears are the same total width (low to high) apart.....so not on the limit at all.

At the front an 8 speed cage is slightly wider than a 9 so it can be fussier, but it moves less distance sideways.

The width of 8 & 9 speed cassettes are the same, I would look at your set up if you are having difficulties
