Looking to buy a Canyon CF SLX and can't decide to go with Ultega Di2 or Dura Ace mech?

Just to complicate matters even further, if mechanical is the right route whether to go Dura Ace or Record?

I hate choices...

But your choice will be limited by availability?

Do you have campag or shimano now ? That should help decide. Personally - I stick to Shimano.

I think I'd also go for mechanical. Batteries are a pain - and I've seen reports of them failing. I've NEVER snapped a gear cable in 30 years though.

Dura Ace mechanical. Ultegra Di is supposedly very good, but it's just plain ugly ! Give it a few years and it will either look great, or will have fallen by the wayside.

You will struggle to find a Di2 user who doesn't rave about it, me included. It's worth trying both.

    Di2 all day long.
  • Same dilemma - went for DI2. How often do you look at it when you're riding? :D - Plus would be more worried by the cost & likelihood of problems with 11 speed Dura at the moment.

In two years of owning dura ace di2 i have never viewed the battery as a pain? Somewhere around 15-17k miles later its still fantastic. My next bike will be ulterga di2 purely for the cheaper maintenance.
  • Or the no maintenance?

I personally like the Di2 and the idea. However what i love about bikes is that they are purely mechanical and powered by us. I think that electronic shifting takes that mechanical romance away from a bike. However from what i hear, you will never have to worry about your gears again.

I have both. Prefer di2 for the extra confidence it gives you for changes on the front mech.

Di2 does things that mechanical shifters just can't do. When shifting, the front mech pulls past the optimum line, momentarily and then quickly returns to the ideal position. This makes for instantaneous chainring shifts, way better than any mechanical system can do.

That it then self trims as you work across the cassette is just bliss.

    Di2 is the future.

surely you can cook the books for the best combo (wordways) of Dura-Ace Di2.

blooming marvellous: smooth, precise and the auto-correction saves wear.

    :D Di2 didn't exist when I got Double taps.

I still like them and if I had mechanical, it would be SRAM shifters. I prefer them to Shimano but Di2 is in a different league.

If you know how to use a barrel adjuster (duh) then get DA, its light and it'll wear in while Ultegra is wearing out.

If you're a dolt who doesn't know when to shift, how to shift, nor can you maintain your bike for even 30 seconds a month then get the heavy, expensive, ugly stuff. Don't believe the comments above that "11 speed isn't proven and could have issues" person has no idea re: Shimano's history of testing prior to product launches. Sante and Biopace are the only 2 misses they've had in my 30 years of riding shimano.

Or get 9070 which looks lovely!

Ok, so I've not hidden my opinion very much if at all :-)

DA. It shifts as smooth as Di2 throughout the range. Worth the difference when Ultegra will likely go 11 speed in another year.
