Advice on new chainrings

Hi,

I replaced the chain and cassette on my bike pre winter and have since found that my middle chain ring is unusable (slips). Its not bothered me as I only ride on road during the winter and can do it all on the 44 chainring.

As spring is approaching I thought I'd better fix the chainring so I can go offroad. The chain set I have is a Shimano FC-M442, Octalink Spline (stock with the bike). What do I need to look for when deciding what chainrings will fit?

I was only going to replace the 44/32 rings as I hardly use the 22, Is this a false economy and should i just replace the whole chainset?

My Bike is a specialized rockhopper sl comp 2010, 3 years old this summer and I do around ~1500 miles per year.

thanks
