How easy is it to replace the shifter body on a DA 7900 STI? Are the levers easily swappable?

The ratchet has gone on the inside so it just clicks, last night this happened whilst i was in the middle of the cassette... Not ideal during a TT...

Firstly, have you just tried flushing-out with WD40/GT85 - sometimes dirt or grease gums-up the internals. Try looking online and you can just buy the shifter module as a spare - best look at the Shimano tech docs for the spares numbers. Whilst some say it's possible to repair an STI - having taken one apart (broken!) you'd need the patience of a saint and the dexterity of a watchmaker.

I took one apart - it was already broken - the number of tiny springs and clips was enough to put me off. I've serviced Campagnolo Ergos before - fiddly, but manageable.

if you are getting another pair or don't want the broken one, i want to have a go at taking it apart. can pay the postage :) I am getting into these sort of repairing shifters quite good fun. the SRAM ones are so simple mechanically i fail to see why they charge £300 for a set fo RED shifters.

Check YouTube for some how-to videos. Not very difficult to do if you're just swapping a shifter mechanism.
