Hi

Just returned from skiing and both of my knees are tender just under the patella cap in the middle. Quite painful at times! For context, I was BASI qualified in 1988 so this was not a pratfall or punter bravado.

Have done two eight mile runs and two forty five mile hilly cycles without too much grief since my return on Saturday but I'm aware the symptoms are there.

Any ideas what this condition may be?

Also, if I were to purchase a brace can anyone recommend a product please?

As always, indebted to your collective wisdom

Thanks

K

I'd have a word with a physio who does kinesio taping.

I've had knee problems following skiing and also a mountain bike accident and the use of kinesio tape to hold the patella stable and away from the swollen tendons/ligaments gave instant relief.

Just to clarify - patellar tendon itself, or underneath the actual kneecap? Either way, probably chronic inflammation simply from over-doing it, particularly the skiing if you're not used to holding a bent-knee position. A brace shouldn't be needed for cycling if the joint is stable.
Give it a rest for a week to see if symptoms improve - anti-inflammatories can help. If rest doesn't help, then best consult a physio.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
