Brakes, confused noob here!

Basically I wish to buy XT brakes for my 2011 Canyon Nerve XC 9.0. Front and rear the calipers are post mount.
Regarding the rotors, could I simply buy 203 front and 180 rear, then buy post mount adapters relating to those sizes?
For example, on the Tweeks Cycles site I pick the rotor sizes then go to
http://www.tweekscycles.com/components/ ... t-calipers
and from the drop down menu choose Front -Post Mount, and buy a 203 and 180.
Is it as simple as that?

If I bought 180 and 160, there is no option to buy a 160 adapter. Would it then not need anything and the caliper would bolt straight on?_______________________________________________________________________________________

160 bolts straight onto the fork post mount. Any larger and you need adaptors.
As for the frame, it should be direct mount to 160 - what is on there at the minute, and how do they mount?0 -
Rear looks exactly the same as the front basically._______________________________________________________________________________________

And what size rotors are they, and what does it say on the adaptors?0

I'm not sure on the rotor size tbh, I think they are actually both around 180-190 or so.
I didn't see anything written on the adaptor when I took pics, perhaps something was on another side of it but I didn't look_______________________________________________________________________________________

It's lashing it down and my garage is in a block, I fear I must venture out and get soaked._______________________________________________________________________________________

Ok so just checked, front and rear are exactly the same.
Rotors are 185mm and the adapters say "185 POST" nothing else is written on them_______________________________________________________________________________________

Ok, your frame and forks are definitely 160mm post mount.
But I wouldn't even change the rotors. Buy the XT and use what you have, and the mounts (but without all the washers).0 -
Ok thanks. Well I have a potential buyer lined up for my X0's but would be for rotors and all so if that goes ahead I'd need to shell out for new ones._______________________________________________________________________________________

Me and Avids dont seem to get on. They feel awful and even on my last bike with new pads and bleeding I wasn't happy with them. My mate has the XT's and they are awesome and servicing them has been painless._______________________________________________________________________________________

I bought XT's for Xmas and swapped them onto my new giant reign for the squidgy pathetic avids, nearly killed myself on a decent when i braked....well tried to,being used to the amazing stopping power of the Shimano's i got a bit of a squeaky bum moment so XT's are now fitted and makes such a difference, all i done was fitted them to the adaptors that were on the Giant and they work amazing...you wont be dissapointed with the XT'sGiant Reign 2

I fitted XTs to my 2011 Nerve XC if you want front 203 and rear 180 you need Superstar mounts nos 7 and 8
If you want front 180 and rear 160 you just need monut no 7 the rear bolts straight on.

You will also need a 180mm or 203mm front 160mm rear disc superstar do them as well
Go for it you wont be disappointed the XTs are awesome and I dont regret buying them one little bitFig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
Cool cheers but will the Shimano mounts not do the job too?_______________________________________________________________________________________

Yes certainly Shimano will work fine, didnt word my post properly. I should have said you can use Superstar mounts No7 and 8 but any mount will work as long as its Post Mount (PM) to Post Mount and the right size. Superstar are one of the cheapest and did the job fine for me. Another one to look at is A2Z they do a big range of mounts that are widely available.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0
