i landed on my hip and then my head hit the floor hard then rolled with the bike. i think i might have taken the corner too sharp, just lost grip. but i couldn't stand up for a good minute or two after the crash and was in quite a bit of pain too. After wards inspected the bruise - its HUGE, all red and purple and have a ghetto bum as well now.

i have to say i do admire how the tour riders come off in a crash and get back on and ride rest of the tours off straight away...it deserves some kind of medal.

Most important of all, how is the bike?
  • Those roads look awfully greasy after todays rain. It's been fantastic having dry roads for the last month.
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

  • Ouch. Sounds like a big crash too. Recover soon buddy.

I crashed one time, I was tailing a lorry to go faster and a bus pulled up, he knew he couldn't fit so he slammed on the brakes and my Cube was a few days old.. I gripped the front (idiot!) and flew over the handles... ate gravel, split my chin, tore my bibtights and brand new jersey.. but I caught the bike to keep it undamaged.. I thought.. my face is free to fix! :P

I always have to time my rides with the the weather channel, I got Ultremo's, rain is a bad idea.

    Did anyone help you up?

You say your head hit the floor, did you have a helmet on?

I got knocked off a couple of years ago whilst going downhill by a school kid who was pushing a bike on the pavement and just crossed the road without looking (lucky for him I was not a car). My head hit the floor and wrecked my helmet but it took all of the impact thank god. I had a massive dark purple bruise on my hip a couple of days later though and I cut a couple of my fingers. The kid was lucky as his bike was between me and him, I could have broken his legs as I was doing about 25mph (I told him so.....).

ya i did and always will. the helmet was largely intact, but a few scuff marks now. the tightening mechanism seems to come loose when i force it, it never did that before.

Roads were really greasy today with first rain in weeks and all the salt covering them. Had the rear wheel slide on the MTB  several times today. Was tiptoeing round quite a few bends as I really couldn't trust the surfaces.

Hopefully going to get some decent rain tonight to wash away a lot of the crap to make riding tomorrow a bit better.

Hope you don't feel the after effects too much. I was surprised how much I stiffened up for a few days after coming off in December and a ruptured bursa gave me pain for quite a while after.

got to agree, unfortunately any kind of impact usually means a new lid.....can get expensive but you can't really put a price on your safety.

the video was very disappointing...it showed a couple of wobbles, then a HUGE bright blur in the middle then it cut off and restarts again some 3-5 meters away and started back on with the lens pointed to a road sign...then i picked it up and switched it off
