The start of the county cricket season, full of optimism.
and then i see my beloved essex getting battered by gloucester who are one of the worst sides.
what a shame.

One of my little pleasures in the summer is passing 2 localish cricket clubs and peeking over the wall and watching them for a 20 minutes or so - it the summer sun it is spiffing, as I think the cricketers say.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
those who can, play, those who cant take the p! although in cricket its generally a load of weirdos and people let out for care in the community who tend to watch 4 day cricket live on a weekday.
i guess its the statistics side that attarcts the poindexters and oddballs.
what does this say about me...0 -
My cousin used to run a school cricket club, and we came across his score book from years and years ago - its funy but you could actually see the game unfolding as you went through the scores - charming, i'd describe it as.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
It could be worse, you could be Lancashire and yet again be denied the title by the rain.0

eh? lancashire won it a couple of seasons back.0

The Swalec Stadium in Cardiff is just up the road from me, and if you walk along the River Taff next to it there are spots where you can see the cricket pitch. Spent a happy half hour watching England last time they played there. Atmosphere was incredible.0 -

i happened to leave work at 5 yesterday, so arrived back home before 6, and decided on my walk home from tthe station to wander through the county ground.
a grim sight, and thats not mentioning the cricket...with gloucs approcahing 300 for 3, napier slumping back to his mark after being hit for another boundary and fosters uninspiring captaincy in the 4 overs i hanged about for, the trees still bare of leaves, a grey cold sky, players dressed up in so many layers they look like michelin men, a parse crowd of saddos and coffin dodgers, and even a few glouc fans hanging around the pavilion. now that is dedication, travelling to watch your team in CC cricket, let alone in an early season game at god awful chelmsford!
it reminded me summer isnt here, this thread title is wrong, and that the season should be postponed to begin the last week of april.0 -
This weather is absolutely horrible and I cannot wait for summer, its like we have a steady progression of warmer weather it peaks at around 15 degrees and then gets all cold again. Absolutely horrible inconsistent weather0

Well its fu£&ed off back to somewhere else here in Chessington. Was talking to a guy on Skye earlier who said it was beautiful weather and he had been in shorts all week. Given that he is a Scottish Islander i took it with a pinch of salt.Life isnt like a box of chocolates, its like a bag of pic n mix.0

it sure is - today was the first day this year when I needed to freeze the water bottle before putting it on the bike for today's ridehttp://veloviewer.com/SigImage.php?a=3370a&r=3&c=5&u=M&g=p&f=abcdefghij&z=a.png

This is what I associate with summer and cricket. Just hearing the first few bars brings back Peter West and the king of commentators, Richie Benaud.

It must be summer, the road sweepers were out in force this morning, cleaning the winter debris from the sides of the roads !!!!Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved0 -

I'm an English immigrant, not a loyal native, so I'll go with whatever is most recent.
Except when you're referring to the Cardiff International Arena, which will NEVER EVER be known as the Motorpint Arena or whatever it is... *shakes fist*0 -
innings difeat agaisnt avergae northants for essex. long long season.0

made the mistake of popping into the county ground having left work at 5 for oncea nd getting out of london in time to catch the last few overs of the day and hopefully watch 2 england players in unison (cook and bopara), having been reasonably encouraged by essex knocking hants over for under 200, and being 42 for 2 in reply.
mistake, firstball i see ravi lbw to a dodgy decision, and promptly 2 more wickets in the last 6 overs of the day i see.
i was going to join the club so i could get a free ticket for the england vs essex game but now will not as they are so sh*te. i have also now been banned form the essex forum by the pravda like mods on there as i registered my disgust at the running of the club. im thinking of running for committee now though just to shake things up.
thank f88k this place isnt so ridiculously modded.
just had to get that off my chest since i couldnt on the essex forum!0 -
^^^ Ban him - he's being anti english - ish

Mantis, not a half bad round this time. Graham going Nape*shit, and Lancs being crap again.
And Somerset... the shame in conceding two wickets in a match, let alone innings, to Adil Rashid.
Our season finished a couple of months ago, and is in its IPL swing. One match took place around mine, went to all four days as it was free attendance. 700/5 vs 650. Riveting. At least Suresh Raina got a gozzer.0 -
wombly, whose your lot then>?
indeed napes is doing marvellously. but today we will be robbed by rain. if only dear old plank had a brain, he could have been an international allrounder in the limited overs stuff at least. so much talent, just not harnessed or thought out by him.0 -
Tamil Nadu, who're rubbish without Ashwin, are my team but I'm in exile in Maharashtra so don't get to see too many matches.
Just follow the counties closely rather than supporting anyone.0
