£1000 Frame v Components

Hi All,
After a decade hiatus (Child/job etc) back in the saddle.
Looking at a new ride, and have set myself a budget of £1000.
So far, I thought I had found the right ride with a Cube LTD 29, but now been told to consider the Whyte 629. The main reason for this is apparently the Manitou Shocks aren't easy to get serviced or parts for in the UK. Not sure if this is true or if anyone has Manitou's?
The reason for the Cube is a nice frame, and great components. The Whyte has slightly poorer specs (Sram X5 v Shimano SLX/XT on the CUBE) but better forks with the RockShox according to some?
Anyone know whether the Whyte will be a significantly better frame than the Cube, or should I go with the Cube with rumored poorer shocks but better group set?
Any other suggestions gratefully received, looked at the Pinnacle Iroko 2, the Trek Cobia 2013, and the Specialized Rockhopper Comp Pro!

nothing wrong with manitou i use the dorado on the dh bike hotlines keep spares for them and tf tuned service them0

They aren't known for their reliability though, especially the Dorado's. But the Rockshox fork on the Whyte is at the very bottom end of the Rockshox range and not particularly good either. I would go for the Cube.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

2/ What scheme does your employer use as that may limit what you can get
3/ Be sure you know how the scheme will deal with the you after the end of the 1 year lease, if they ask for an FMV payment then your saving will be minimal.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Cycle scheme I believe. Was looking at Cycle Surgery to buy it.
I think they take a deposit of 7% for fmv0 -
You mean the 7% to 'extend the lease period'.....
Cycle scheme gives a fair bit of choice.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Ah yes, extended hire! Did wonder how ownership actually passes? My company have no interest in owning after 12 months let alone 36!
Gong to look again at the Whyte 629' , Specialized Rockhopper Comp Pro, and possibly the Orange's. like the look of the Trek Cobia but that might just be because my last bike was a Trek and purely nostalgic! The choice these days is immense.0 -
Cyclescheme do Decathlon which opens up some of the best Value for money bikes you will find.
Basically once you pay the extended lease fee, the bike is still cycleschemes (on paper) until the end of it, in reality they have no interest and it's yours from that day forward.
Quite probably if HMRC ever look at it they will consider it tax avoidance and may try and clamp down on it, whether they do or don't I don't know.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Does anyone know of anyone who've had a bike after the agreement went to extended lease? I mean, if someone sold the bike etc, do they inform cyclescheme or just tell them they lost it!
On the more important aspect, thanks for the tip on decathlon, will take a look. Goi to try and find some bikes this weekend, doesn't help that I have short legs and need a 15" or small, as so few people stock much to try, and expect you to pay to get the, in to try0 -
As CS frankl;y don't care once they have the 7%, I don't see it as an issue, consider it yours....
RR8.1 is an excellent Hardtail for £550 or the 8.3 for £900, 9.1 and 9.2 are very good FS for circa £900-1000
Decathlons website is playing silly burgers right now, you can't seem to find anything over £250 without jumping through hoops (click XC or AM options) even then, it's almost impossible to find the 8.1!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Thanks for all the help. Went with my gut instinct in then end and the Cube Ltd 29 pro. Well, that's if they can get one in for me! Fingers crossed0
