Close finish at Brabantse Pijl yesterday bodes well for a good race on Sunday. Forecast continues to be good - warm, a little overcast, with a Southerly wind.

Wahey, I'm actually off to this at at the weekend - staying in Maastricht. Any tips from the good folk on here? Imagine the trains late morning from Maastricht to Valkenburg are busy, but still the best option? (No car)

And is there usually a big screen at the finish? I guess we can write off a spot on the Cauberg unless we get there early and stay all day...maybe finding a screen is the best option, then heading to the road when they're about to come past?

Cheers, any tips from those who have been would be great.

Just to let you know, there will be several big TVs at the finish. There's a lot more space so there will also be a public access marquee and public access to the stand near the finish line.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Anyone know if it will be broadcast live?

ES from about 1pm I think & looks like several hours coverage but think they have live tennis on before so might get moved back a bit
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

From the website: "NOS channel begins transmission on Netherlands 1 at 14:00 with the broadcast from Valkenburg. Sporza and Eurosport are also covering the event with live programmes beginning at around 15:00 on Sunday."

    (all times are CET)

While training for the upcoming Amstel Gold race Blanco team members Tom-Jelte Slagter en Bram Tankink were involved in an accident with a car. Apparently they were climbing the Fromburg and both riders wanted to be first to the top when they took a bend a little too sharply and hit an oncoming car. Luckily both riders came away with no injuries to speak of however both bikes were seriously damaged.

Gasparotto, who won last year, has been hit by a truck too. He's OK though.

is there any reason why absolutely no-one is picking J-Rod for this? I think he came second in 2011?

I am in charge of my betting syndicate for April so I'm looking for free tips :D

course change - 1.8km flat run to the finish does not suit him. He'd need a huge gap on top of the cauberg

    ah yes, of course

I'll wait to back him in FW then!

I'd have thought TV's odds would be quite short. For a real outside bet, I have a sneaky feeling Romain Bardet may do something.

You can get 125-1 for Ryder Hesjedal, which is remarkably generous for someone who has finished second previously, albeit on the previous finish.

That second place was wierd (and great). Beat a couple of pure punchers in that sprint in 2010.

He hasn't been anywhere close of doing anything similar since, though. He shouldn't be capable of it either. He's not the same type of... ryder.

I wonder what kind of performance Andy Schleck will turn in. Finishing would be a start.

I hope he can finally get his season going. The Tour will be a much better race with a strong Andy Schleck involved.

Have to say that I can not wait for tomorrow for this race, having a pretty poor week and also cycling withdrawal symptoms.

Saw a couple of the Blanco guys out for a spin today. Weather's pleasant but with a stiff southerly wind, forecast to reach F5 tomorrow, which should make it a bit tougher.

Temperature at the start is 15 degrees and wind force 4 SSW direction so should make for an interesting race.
