a friend of mine is coming to the end of his rugby career and is making his first steps into joining the rest of us retired players in the world of mountainbiking.

Generally we'll be riding trails, north downs, south downs, the odd foray to Wales. I'll try to involve him in a few Gorricks as well.

He's on a bit of a budget. Absolute top whack is £700. And that is pushing it. But he wants something that will enable him to make a fair stab at keeping pace with the rest of us without braking the bank. He's 15 stone - so I have been looking more towards a trail strong bike but wihout too much of a weight penalty.

The usual suspects in the running - Boardman HT, etc...which he is considering. But he seems keen on the Canyon Yellowstone 29er. http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=3005

A couple of my mates own Canyons and they love the bikes (if one of them not the customer service) - but have to say know little of them at this price point.

Thoughts on the above ^^ ^^ ??

Or, any other bike worth considering given the above information?

Thanks! :)
