Is it possible to merge laps on a Garmin?

I am fairly new to using my Garmin and was wondering if it's possible to merge laps?

For example, if I ride laps of Richmond Park using the auto lap by position function, on my last lap I cross the lap point and then turn around shortly afterwards and ride home. The problem is that on when I pass the lap point on my return journey home, it records it as a lap so I always have one lap of say 45 seconds and then the rest of my journey home is counted as another lap.

Maybe I am mildly OCD but it really bugs me. I've read a few posts about editing the xml file but is there not a more user friendly way?

Press the lap button instead of using autolap?

That's what I'll do from now on, I'd like to tidy up my previous rides though if possible. It seems like quite a basic feature to be missing all the same.

Amen to that. Though I find that by lifting my hand off the bars to press the button, I totally ruin my perfect aero position and it costs me around 1.5 seconds per lap........
