Alternative to SRAM XX1?

My front shifter recently broke & I removed it & the front derailleur so I could still ride until I got a replacement. I just leave the chain on the middle ring. I've hardly missed the other 2 rings for the majority of riding I do. Main problem is the chain occasionally drops down to the small ring. But the point is I think I'd really like just having one ring up front & 10 or 11 gears on the rear. The XX1 looks really good but is STUPID expensive. Are there any alternatives to this system or maybe a 1x10 option for XC?

Replace your middle ring with a proper single ring, like these http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=561

So you just want 1x10 (XX1 is the only option just now for 1x11)? Any single-specific ring (those Superstar ones aren't btw) + a guide (+ a short-cage clutch mech too preferably). Google or search here for info on ratios. You won't get anywhere near the spread of XX1 with 10-spd, but since you say you do alright just now you probably don't need a dinnerplate sized large cog anyway.0

what is your setup atm? i.e how many teeth does your middle ring have? And what cassette do have at the back?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

To be honest I didn't really look at them, I always just thought they were single rings.
One of these instead then http://www.tweekscycles.com/Product.do? ... tAodkk8AFgTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Not only are the SS ones not designed for single use, it's actually a set of 3 rings!
Plenty of options out there, Hope are well regarded.0 -
I've got Blackspire single rings on two of the bikes, a Mono Voloce and a DH one. They seem to be fine"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes
