Now that the Sun has returned (that's blown it), my rides are getting longer on thinner rubber and tubes.

The ex squaddie, kit freak in me means I usually set out with:

2 tubes, and a repair kit
Topeak Alien
First Aid kit
Mini Cable lock
Mobile Phone
Lyzene Mini Pump

I ve one Winter jersey that can accomodate all this but makes me look like Richard III and Quozimodos love child.

I ve got a Topeak seatpost pack that can also hold it all , but makes my lovely bike look very ineloquent.

So a straw poll whats the prefered choice on here.

P.s both images on here are off google, I d never wear a Yellow Jersey, but I am liking the look of that Saddle Pack could get me Park workstand in it for necessary on route fettling, :D

I would go for 1 tube and repair kit, or 2 tubes and no kit.
No need for a first aid kit - the ambulance crew will take care of any major issues. Anything not requiring an ambulance can be walked off.
You don't need a lock unless you plan to leave your bike, and why would you do that? If you do need to leave it somewhere a little lock is not good enough.
Take a credit card and various banknotes in a plastic zip-bag and include an emergency contact.

I use a small wedge pack as I tend to fill my pockets with food, and a spare pair of spectacles. I have a frame-mounted pump on the winter bike and a mini pump goes in the pocket on the summer ride.

You could carry a small child in that saddle-bag!

Neither. Unless you like overloading your pockets or are into bum-bags as a fashion so much that you'd like your bike to have one too.

One of them, and anything you can't fit, put it in the jersey, but you'd be amazed what you can cram in, even in the smaller/neater 500ml one. (If you need 2 bottles of drink then of course it wont work for you).

(This question wants to be in the buying section really)

*edit; yeah, 1 tube, 1 patch kit, cO2 pump and spare cannister, levers, rag, small multi-tool, bit of money etc, that'll all go in a small one of these.

inner tube, allen keys, quicklinks, chaintool, emergency flashing mini lights incase i get caught out in the dark, tyre lever - all go in my fizik saddle pack thingy...

another inner tube in my back pocket and a mini pump on the frame (GASP!) and I'm good to go.

    Two tubes
    mini pump
    multi tool
    two tyre levers
self-adhesive patches (in case I'm really unlucky)
    mobile phone
tube container with money and soluble tablets
one/two energy bars/energy gels ( depending on planned ride)

All carried in my shirt pockets.

Tim, I don't actually think it would be possible for Rich 3rd ans Quasimodo to actually have a "love child" even if they'd both existed never mind met.

But I do get the sentiment you actually mean you'd appear like a humpty backed ugly b@st@rd.

My Fratello commuting/winter bike gets a saddle bag but the Master doesn't and I guess that is the set up that most interests you.

Mini-pump in the dedicated jersey pocket.
Cash notes, ID, key and phone in a ziplok in the middle pocket.
Any snacks in one side pocket.
Small camera case in the other side pocket.

The camera case has:- 1 inner tube, instant patches, levers, Lezyne multi-tool (including chain tool), quick link and a couple of wet wipes. The wet wipes are usually dried out by the time I need them :( even in a sealed bag but they are still good to have. :P
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Seat post wedge for me. I carry a spare tube in there, puncture repair and levers. Small pump is on the bottle carrier.

The only thing in my pocket is a mobile phone for when the above can't sort it out and I have to call for Mrs Slog (who can't sort it out either but will come and collect me in the car).

I realised the other day that I really should include a pair of specs in my kit, because I stand little chance of seeing to fix a puncture without them.

From experience I would say, best not to carry hard lumpy items in jersey pockets, they tend to leave a lasting impression if you fall off! However if you do fall off and find that you can't move much, it is useful if your mobile phone is in a pocket and not on what remains of the, bike several inaccessible feet away!

I carry only the wind in my optimistic sails and joy in my heart as I dance accross the tarmac on my latex and conti's...freezing my bloody bollox off and if I fiind that c*nt who clipped me with his wing mirror i'll nut him and smash up his nissoyotaclonewagon and shag his wife and his daughters and his bloody cat whilst I am at it.

You and me both, mate. I got a nifty pair of folding reading glasses from eyelids.co.uk for about a tenner.

They stay in my Topeak wedge (small) with
    two tubes,
    two levers,
a broken-down multi-tool in a placcy bag (much lighter and way less bulky and the allen keys are more versatile when separated - you thread one through the "eye" of another to turn them),
    latex gloves,
    small zip ties,
    10sp link,
    ventolin inhaler.

Topeak mini-morph is next to one of my bottles.

Phone, lightweight gilet/waterproof and grub in pockets.

    Sorted.

Small topeak wedge here with 2 tubes, levers, patch, chain tool, spare link and pins, small tool kit and oil. If its more complicated than that then I ain't going to fix it. In left jersey pocket phone, front door key, tenner or card or both and ventolin inhaler. Middle pocket pump and or fold up in a bag rain coat. Right hand pocket Soreen or equivalent. Bottle of dilute apple squash in cage. Works for me ...

Don't worry about how your seat post wedge looks - I cycle with a trunk bag. :D

    On the clinchers:

Inner tube (extra if it’s an epic)
Co2 and head (extra if it’s an epic)
    2 x tyre levers
    Club ID
    BC ID
    Rubber gloves
A wee Allen key for pedals/cleats/Sidis
    Card and some cash
    Inhaler
Lip balm (in case I need to pucker up)
    Food (ride depending)

    On the tubs:
Vittoria Pit Stop (spare tub and Co2 if it’s an epic)
    Club ID
    BC ID
    Rubber gloves
A wee Allen key for pedals/cleats/Sidis
    Card and some cash
    Inhaler
Lip balm (in case I need to pucker up)
    Food (ride depending)
  • Seat pack for repair tools pockets for food and clothing or if its a short loop and you only need like a tube, a pump, and a tyre remover then pockets. Really not too complicated. FORM OVER FUNCTION

After carrying a multitude of tools & bits that were never used I now carry only the min:

    tube
    CO2 bomb + valve
    2 x tyre levers

in a seatpost wedgey thing. It's out of the way and means I never forget to pick stuff up.

    In the pockets:
    Phone
    Keys
    Bit of cash
Nibble if it's a longer ride > 50 miles or so.
