Hi
I have just bought a 2006 Orange 5 frame, I intend building it over the next couple of weeks, just one thing I cant find out from the orange archive site.....What type of BB was fitted to these frames ? I know its 73mm, but does it need to be internal or external, (what length shafts) ?
If I had a selection of BB's & cranks I would try some to see what works & what fouls the cranks, but I have to buy a BB, so want to make sure I buy one that fits first time, so hoping that you good folks can help

It depends on the cranks you want to fit.
External set ups like HT2 and GXP will work no problems with the screw in cups. But the cranks have to match the BB!0 -
yep, I realise that, havnt got either yet.
I was thinking of getting GXP, just because I have one on another bike & had no problems with it (I am a bit of a "better the devil you know kind of guy"), so you reckon that will be OK, will the chain line etc be ok ?0 -
The bottom bracket comes with the cranks, and for a specified chainline, usually 50mm. Will be fine.0

Just be aware, not all Truvativ GXP cranks come with a bottom bracket. The lower end models usually do, but the higher end ones (I think X0 and above) don't0 -
I meant more as in are designed to work together, but always best to read the label!0

Ok, so I've decided what I want to acheive now, & a budget, but there is such an array of options, can anyone advise on a good simple combination please.
I want 2 rings & a bash ring, I need a 22 or 24 granny (cos I am a wimp) & something like a 32/34 for the middle.
I also want to fit a simple chain guide (needs to be BB mount cos the frame has no ISCG mounts).
I want to pay no more than £100 for the chainset, thats the sort of budget I working in, can anyone narrow my search down with a few suggestions (hopefully with tried & tested stuff, I dont like being a guinea pig)0 -

thanks, would you say that is any better or worse than this, http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=31151 with a howitzer BB http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=793490

I'd go for the Deore - the price of the BBs for Howitzer is ridiculous! And the Deore is a proven performer.0

Cheers, you make a good point about "tried & tested", I think thats a decision then0
