What does it say on the crown next to the lockout dial?

nothing next to the lockout dial out all.

FPB284 is inprinted on the back of the fork.

'mg' sticker as well as a '29' sticker (does that mean they should be used for 29ers?

As far as I can see it is the XCR RLO 29 ie is a 29er fork.

  • Look at the clearance between the fork and the wheel - it's huge.
I would make sure that the fork belongs on that bike.

Would agree they look like 29er forks, and as the exposed stanchion is quite short, 80mm sounds about right....

There's nothing wrong with using a 29er fork on a 26" bike. With these 80mm forks the A-C measurement probably isn't too far off. Looks like one of the lower seals is leaking though

yeah I'd not done my research properly and turns out its the 29er version bike i've bought but the guy before me has 26" wheels on it.

Now im in 2 minds wether to sell it and cut my losses, leave it on 26s or fork out more than what i paid for the bike for wheels :/

Sell the 26" wheels and get some 29" wheels on it.
