The colour of stanchion.

Something suddenly occurred to me the other day at a trail centre and it may well be an incredibly stupid and ignorant thing to ask, but does the colour of the stanchion affect a fork's performance or is it purely aesthetic? I understand that the colour itself would play any role in performance, but is it a sign of a different material or coating and what impact does this have, if any.

Sometimes is aesthetic - some are specially coated to reduce friction.0

Chrome is usually only applied to steel, which means the fork will be heavier.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Often aluminium stanchions are anodised. So they will be lighter than steel, and probably a bit slicker.I don't do smileys.
