Hi quick question, I want to build a single speed bike and wanted to know whether this bike is worth buying for the frame to convert?

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/singl ... 1014381652

Are these good bikes? Will the frame be light? Can I upgrade all parts on it or not worth it? May even potentially pick it up tonight depending on responses.

Cheers

  • Just get a Langster or Fuji
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

I think you need a frame with horizontal rear drop outs to allow the chain to be tensioned (by being able to move the rear wheel).
    Yellow is the new Black.

well, for a start it's vintage so it won't be light. The wheels might also be a weird size, and you may struggle to get modern parts to fit (I'm thinking stems / headsets / chainset etc)

As smidsy says, if you can get horizontal drops, they'd work to tension the chain, or a normal road frame with a chain tensioner would also work. Sloppy's right, but if you're on a budget, something like a Ribble winter frame would be fine with tensioner.

Or just buy a track bike and some wooden pedals
