What are people's experiences of this event? I'm thinking of entering the 85 mile route to give me some motivation to get out and get some miles under my belt in this god-awful weather. I tried searching for some info on previous years, but came up with a blank, did it go under a different name previously?

Call me a hippy, but I did the Kentish Killer and Puncheur sportives already this year and liked the fact that a portion of my entry fee was going to small, local businesses and charities. Not so sure about supporting such an overly-commercialised corporate machine like the Wiggle and Evans cycle series. I was shocked when I read this article about the Etape Caledonia, but please feel free to educate me if my preconceptions about these events are misplaced.

And finally, what's going on with the gold/silver/bronze times?! 25kmph for gold? I nearly did De Ronde this weekend at this pace and I'd expect the terrain on that to be considerably more challenging than the Surrey roads. Is this the cycling equivalent of 'dumbing down' for the wider market of MAMILs now?

I did this last year, a good ride despite pants weather if I remember. Can't make it this year sadly. Enjoy!

if you truly take issue with the fee, there is an audax in the surrey hills the same day -- surrey hillier, 6 GBP. 2300 m over 100 km, including whitedown and winterfold (barhatch). only a cue sheet, but if you know the area it is easy to follow.

expect it to be pretty painful (for me at least) as it is a challenging route, even in september.
