New tyres

Hi all,
Just a question about getting some new tyres for my road bike (Specialized Allez Sport). I'm going to start doing a commute to a new job a couple of times a week. It's about 40 miles - hoping to get my time down to around 2 hours ish.
I've just got the standard tyres on the bike that it came with but wondering if it might be better to upgrade them. Can't afford the expensive carbon wheelsets etc but is there anything around the £200 ish mark that's likely to be better than I've already got?
Any advice much appreciated
Thanks
Dave

tyres or wheels?!
£200 tyres would be a lot of money!
£200 wheels would be what many would consider "entry level" ...
Tyres - I've been really happy with my Conti GP4 seasons - they've done 3k miles so far and still going strong. Rode the New Forest Falling Leaves sportive with my wife - ppl where fixing punctures every 10 minutes (the roads were that bad!) but we went through absolutely fine (2 pairs of the GP4Seasons) - I'm sure there were others on other tyres that were just as lucky.
Wheels - the stock wheels with my 2011 Allez needed replacing and I got a pair of Fulcrum Racing T's - oem wheels with the FR 5 hubs & spokes, 7 rim. These have been great (done 2.5k miles) and are still true. Bearings are fine even after a submersion (fresh water). FR5's can be got for ~£170 at Merlin atm. I can't quantify an improvement in my speed due to these wheels, but the feel is that they hold their speed far better than the stock wheels.0 -
If you want tyres for commuting get something that will put up with the daily punishment. I went for Durano Plus tyres. A little heavy but so far I am finding them robust for commuting and they give a good, comfortable ride.RIP commute...
Sometimes seen bimbling around on a purple Fratello Disc or black and red Aprire Vincenza.0 -
Good point - I was actually thinking tyres and wheels!
That's really helpful. Just checked out those Fulcrums - they look great.
Many thanks0 -

Re tyres, I have Gatorskins on my commuter and they'd outlast cockroaches in the event of nuclear attack.
