If it's a training race then some people really want to win it. That looked a v hard fought finish with several teams bumping shoulders. Good to see Kittel get a strong win, and nice to see Cav going so well too.

Nasty, messy finish... amazed nobody came down. What was with the Garmin guy charging around like a bull in a chinashop with about 1.5kms to go?

Fair play to Kittel, he's had a less than ideal last couple of weeks in the run up to this

Cavendish not happy apparently, anyone know what he was saying?

Take out his Qatar win and he must be disappointed with how his spring has gone. In Qatar I though he looked fitter and leaner than i've ever seen him at that stage in the season, so had a feeling he was going to do well, but all his likely one day targets : KBK, MSR, GW, and now Schelderprijs have all passed him by for various reasons.

Anyone know if he's doing the Giro this year or is it all on the Tour now?

Cav's season is entirely defined by GTs and was mainly hired by OPQS for the Tour.

I wonder if he ever regrets leaving Cuddly Bob.

Did Cuddly Bob have a sponsor lined up though?

What OPQS are learning is that putting together a sprint train is a lot more difficult than you think. They've time to improve it before the Tour though, which is when it'll matter.

Think so - But the inability to guarantee Cavendish gave them cold feet.

I wonder if they just had the wrong mix today for the job. Someone like Martin would've helped a lot. Can't believe how rubbish Steegmans is at it. Well, I can, but you'd think he'd be better

They'll have the A team at the Tour, so Martin will be back on train duties plus maybe Boonen as the lead out man?

Steegmans did a decent job when he was McEwen's leadout man, so maybe he's just a bit ring rusty.

His main priority is no doubt the Tour, but do you honestly think he doesn't care about winning one day races?

yeah the lead-out has been a balls-up so far, but if anybody thinks he'd still be better off at Sky then they are crazy. It will come good for the Tour, he will be the best as usual and this will all be forgotten.

He can't moan too much about M-SR and the only other one he could have won is Scheldeprijs in which he came second.

Hardly a raft of missed opportunities.

Cuddly Bob had a sponsor lined up, a forex company. Cav leaving effectively ended the team.

    Lefevere doesn't mince his words.

So Cav needs a leadout to win?

He still has more wins than anyone else in the pro peloton this year other than Sagan who is also on 7.

He is still doing better than at Sky and happier.

    It will get better.

Steegemans should know how to lead a sprint out, he did it many times for Boonen back in the day when he was a "sprinter"

Perhaps sprint lead out is now more sophisitcated and is targeted wholesale by teams rather than just the individuals following the successful years of HTC. What is for certain is that you just can't employ a top quality sprinter and have everyone else riding for him to guarantee success. Do OPQS need Boonen to do the last speed tow to launch Cav successfully?

Steegman wasn't always great at the leadout. Anyone remember in 2007 tour in ghent when he and boonen were with quickstep. Steegman led boonen out but didn't pull over and so took the stage (and green jersey points) off his teammate .
Can you imagine cavendish's reaction to something like that happening?

With all the discussion over Cav, we've kind of over-looked the seriously impressive ride by Markus to make the podium. Followed up on his showing in Qatar...
