9 months on the bike and I finally did it on a lovely sunny day but with a tough 15mph wind. I'm chuffed
I had previously been stopped from long distances due to butt pain as I posted about here:
viewtopic.php?f=40013&t=12911972&hilit=Too+long+in+the+saddle
However the regular intervals out of the saddle helped immensely to the extent where I didn't feel it apart from the odd twinge in the final 5 miles as my legs were too exhausted for me to stand up anymore
I have a new problem however - hot/painful/numb feet (not due to cold). I had to stop twice to take my shoes off to get the feeling back. I've read it's caused by tight shoes/socks but I have my shoes done up as loose as possible.
I guess I'll have to wait for the warmer weather to switch back to my thin socks and summer shoes.
Are there any other sutions?
For the record... Flat route, 15mph wind, 87 avg cadence, 16.5mph avg speed. Was hoping for 17+mph but I found the wind quite tough today.

Well done! Even on the flat terrain the wind can be a real bummer for your motivation, let alone your avg speed I can't tell you anything you haven't already thought about concerning ya feet, sorry!0

You might be right - I had porridge and plenty of water an hour before the ride. Then a Clif bar and 600ml water with High 5 Zero hydration tablet at the halfway mark. Should I be taking on more during the ride?0 -

Sounds about right for 50miles, might want to take on more for longer rides though0 -
Well done on your first 50. Did my first 50+ ride a few weeks ago, but currently struggling going any further!
My feet were completely numb after my 48 and 53 mile rides at the weekend. As oxoman says, I think the key is to wiggle your toes/scrunch them up occasionally, *before* they get numb. Just a matter of remembering to do it.0
