I have now been off the bike for over 2 months with an foot injury and it will be a bit longer, probably taking me up to 3 months before i am well enough to get back o the bike.
I just wondered what's the longest time you have had off the bike and why?

Enduring it now, seven weeks and counting with bad shoulder soft tissue injury from fall on black ice early in February. Not enjoying it. Should be in the saddle next week though.0

Nearly 5 weeks now, hurt my back in work, still hurting when I sit for to long, pain killers just about doing the trick at the moment, going to see the works physio on Tuesday, just hoping its not the end to my cycling.0

7 months with a broken wrist and complications with it healing. (though there was a 3 month holiday in between)
Been on the bike for a solid 3 months now, shame about the weather.Cannondale SS Evo Team

This is a genuine reply: over 20 years!
I'm 49. I developed a chronic knee injury at about age 25 after many years of hard cycling. Doctors, sports injuries specialists, orthopeadic surgeons, none could solve the problem so I completely gave up cycling and got obsessed with other sports instead. Because I was so in love with cycling it was a case of if I can't do it I won't do it at all - I couldn't face having to do it "gently" which was the advice at the time.
Fast forward 20+ years and I discovered that with modern clipless pedals I could ride again without aggravating the old injury. I was utterly amazed that the problem had just disappeared. In hindsight the whole problem was caused by poor bike fit and zero float in the old clips-plus-cleats system from the old days. If only I'd known then what I know now!
Now I live in road cycling heaven (the Scottish Borders) and I'm back to doing 400 hilly miles a month, and loving it as much as I did back then.0 -

Great story, it's a shame all those years were missed. I guess at least on the plus side you didn't have to give it up forever and were able to jump back on the bike again.0 -
Still in the the thick of a 5 month break as i dont like riding in the winter.
When mother nature decides to warm things up i will go and dust off my bike.Cervelo S5 Ultegra Di2.0
