I would think most KOM's have been achieved with 'favourable' wind conditions (me included btw)

Indeed, KOMs are about those days when the planets align, the legs are fresh and or you get gifted a tow. They are generally not a reflection of someones ability! anyone who gets upset by that needs to put down the computer...

I've never drafted a lorry, nor have I taken anything up my backside.

    Neither appeals

My comment was simply a little tongue in cheek, I hardly ever use my gps or strava so not really too bothered about KOM.

this is crazy and I would never do it myself nor condone it, however you have to give respect where its due.

Respect for what? Being lazy & not getting to 50 mph on his own? What if the lorry brakes.. Where will he end up?

Nothing teaches a reckless cyclist a lesson quite like being murdered.
I actually laughed out loud at this

+1 for laughing out loud.. just got some strange looks in the office

By actually writing this on a forum do you realise you have practically admitted to reckless driving yourself? I often hear people say they do this to various road users who tailgate but if an accident occurs from this action you are in serious sh%t.
I'm not defending tailgaters, they really get my goat up but I would never do anything to make the situation worse.

Unless there are witnesses it is your word against them and at the end of the day if you went into the back of someone else, no matter why you were too close.

The above trick is a scam that has been around for ages, they will purposely drive around waiting for someone to get right up behind them and suddenly break. "Oh a cat ran out in front of the road, blah blah blah" You hit them, they sue for repairs and whiplash.

I'm sorry but this guy is just asking for it! 152 mph and entirely in the drivers blind spot

Maybe he's pulled along for a bit then is unhooked? I'm not sure how it works but guessing being attached to the car the whole time would be cheating.

Seem to recall that from the gearing they need some help getting going.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

That's why I put that he had admitted it in writing and is therefore almost a confession. I'll admit it's unlikely an investigating officer would come on here and connect him to an incident but non the less that is what he has done.

It's a fallacy that running into the back of someone automatically puts you in the wrong. I went to overtake a motorcar that was following a lorry(I was on a motorbike) the car pulled out to overtake herself and I ran into the back of her. Her insurance ended up paying for everything and she got fined for careless driving.

It sure is. Whilst driving one weekend behind a delivery truck with those motorised loading bays the truck suddenly stopped so I stopped perhaps 2 metres behind him. He then proceeded to reverse and by the time I had a chance to react he had smashed right into my bonnet and lights and smashed it all. All I had a chance to do was beep my horn. Too late.

As I got out to confront him him and his delivery mate both started with the I ran into the back of them story. I was about to thump the guy right there but just then the coppers came around the corner. All they did was make us exchange details and left it at that. I knew I didnt stand much of a chance as I was behind and I knew enough to know that the driver behind is always at fault. Luckily for me it happened in front of a building with cctv cameras pointed into the road. I spent a week pestering the building owners to check their cctv and lo and behold it showed them reversing into me. Long story short, I took them to the cleaners. £700 car ended up costing the owners insurance company over £5k.

All out of principal for lying blatantly in my face. So lucky I had that footage!

Thanks for all the comments - didn't realise it was such an emotive subject, and only a couple of people answered the peloton question. I was hoping for my first 100 comments thread - so I thought I would give myself a wee bump!

  • I "drafted" a McClaren t'other day. I say "drafted" because the car was so low, it barely made a difference! Sounded awesome though.
