    Isn't the fact that the wheel is wobbling around, mean that the ball bearings and cone are already damaged? Hence why it's come loose in the first place?

    Not necessarily, it could be simply that it's worked loose. I'd take the hub apart, check the condition of the cones and the BBs (Not rusted, smooth etc and that the cones are cone shaped and not worn down). If all is well pack a load of fresh grease in there and tighten them up. If not then replace them.
