Stout specialized hub play

Hello
Hope someone here might be able to tell me whether its worth doing much to Stout Hubs (spec 2010 Rockhopper wheels) as there is a good amount of play that develops through a ride, till i need to remove them to tighten back up. Also the skewers need to be tighten up pretty hard.
Thinking of replacing the front wheel as this is a pain to stop on a ride, particularly cold today!

I would whip the sealed(?) bearings out, measure them and order a new set, you can get good quality SKF bearings off ebay pretty cheap.0
