Im off to california in two weeks and driving across america to boston. Is there anything anybody knows thats cool or cheaper to buy out there? Was hoping to do a trek factory tour while passing but the dayes dont work. Any advice appreciated. Cant see much on the web out there? I know chris king are cheaper but i dont want them. Cant get 808s through customs unseen but if anyone knows of any cool funky bike things out there id love to buy a few bits as it will be years before i go back again. Thanks

Any "Livestrong" (or anything associated with LA) gear seems to be going pretty cheap out here right now  . I actually get a few things from Merlin, ProBikeKit, Wiggle, ChainReaction, etc., shipped here when there's a sale and still beats some prices anywhere in the US. No VAT of course but even still UK prices can be hard to beat sometimes. You might want to look for some LBS or local club jersey's as some can be interesting. I'll ask some friends that work in shops if they have any good tips so will try to re-post. If you would like to arm your bike with the latest military weaponry guns are cheap and easy to get here as well. You can even get a gun mount for your bike. Crazy, I know.0

Is there anything you actually need ? If there isn't - then its false economy.0

Wash your mouth out with soap, there's always something a cyclist needs.0 -
Exactly sandy. There is no false economy i dont have an economy as such to justify. Im taking some cash to "just spend" or fritter if you like? I have fritterd lots on bikes and stuff so more wont hurt.
Local interesting jerseys sound great, i just pass thousands of cyclists out here and 70% all look the same, id just like soemthing different. I know most things seem to be cheaper elsewhere but im looking to buy things that are a bit different rather than just cheaper as well. Im driving right across america but will be staying quite north as im leaving san fran on 17th april and then go in a nearly straight line to boston then new hampshire.
Thanks for the gun advice if it were legal i would come back looking like rambo. Always fancied a nice snipers rifle.

I buy all my chainsaws from the US. They can land almost 1/2 price.
For bike stuff though, buy US stuff like Easton, Zipp, etc. and steer well clear of Italian type stuff, like Sidi which are well pricey.0 -
Dare i ask why you need so many chainsaws?0

Vegas is a hole, but Arizona's nice (that's where I'm from). Go climb Mt. Lemmon!English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0 -

I lived all around the Phoenix metro area (Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Cave Creek) for 20+ years. My dad is in Cave Creek so that's where I stay when I go back.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

Take your bike out. Anthem is pretty close to Bartlett Lake and that ride is awesome!

FWIW Bike Nashbar's web site has some of the best deals around and Performance Bike Shops(which own Nashbar) have very well stocked stores in many major U.S. cities. And their prices are pretty good too.0
