My Bike

Evening all, had a day off today so thought I'd make the most of the sunshine and relatively good weather and give my bike a little tlc and a good clean. It deserves it after what it's gone through the last few months.

Thought I'd post in general to garner more comments and views so ridicule away, just don't be too harsh. :D

On a more serious note, whilst cleaning the front derailleur I noticed a dent in the pipe just under the derailleur bracket. Now I have no idea how it got there but it has scared me no end. It does not look like it should be there and I have never hit anything in a place like that so I have no idea what happened. I am hoping someone on here will put my mind at ease and tell me thats how the frames are made but if not I have no idea what to do. Can someone help?

That looks like it's supposed to be there to me
  • Agreed. It looks to be there by design and it's fairly common for a 'dent' to be there - it helps with FD clearance.

On a more serious note. You called your bike a steed.

    Loser.

Thanks thats definitely putting my mind at ease although I am sure I did not see it the last time I gave it a thorough cleaning. Maybe just my eyes.

Whats everyones thoughts on the colour scheme? I notice white bikes are not a massive favourite on this site, but I am a big fan of white bikes.

I would say it's meant to be there too. Either that or you washed it too hard ;-)

I am not a white bike fan (I thought lots of people on here were though) but I think it looks really good.
Not so keen on white bar tape and stems etc. White bar tape always looks grubby and white stems look a bit cheap IMO.
Saying that I just changed my MTB bars from black to white and they are growing on me :-)
I am not really a fan of black bikes either but I love half black/half white ones.

Took some pics of my bike (have not named it yet, but it's male) yesterday but not sure how to resize on a mac so might just take some more tomorrow.

I hear you on the grubby tape, but I dont think I am ready to unwind the old and attempt to retape it. I am also afraid what crazy contraption I will find under the hood so would rather leave it rather than open it all up and not be able to put anything back together again.

Do you have any software like Paint on a Mac? It is a nuisance all the resizing I had to do to make the pics fit but in Pain you can simply select the number of pixels and save it.

Thanks good idea, I was already browsing their frame warranty page but didn't think to email them! General consensus seems as though it should be there but may just drop them a line too.

I cannot be bothered to re tape mine either. I was thinking of double taping to see how it feels and save taking the original off.

Don't worry about it, you've got £4k to spend on a new one anyway.

  • I'm pretty sure that "dent" is engineered in to stop the clamp from turning around the frame tube.

Ha I do feel a tad foolish now, also making a few google checks it appears I know nothing about bikes!

Better get the books out again! Thanks again.
