I am trying to get BIB shorts but have ended up very confused , I am "NOT"washboard body but a 53 Year old anything but body.
I checked sizes for all the manufacturers and according to my waist 33"and Inside leg 30" they claim medium to large well castelli aero wouldnt even go past my thighs Assos large seem right if I was slim but otherwise the straps are pulling hard.
I just wonder even though Mamils account for a huge proportion of cyclists is there anyone catering for our non standard bodys.
I havent tried Rapha as they do a short length so when I have the money... any one have any advice on this .... I tried XLs and the leg grippers go past my knees

Assos can feel tight standing up but they go 'into position' once your on your bike. I'm tall and skinny and the straps feel tight on my shoulders when I'm standing but are perfect on the bike.0

I can see my stomach muscles, but can't get castellis over my thighs either so don't worry about them.
I've found pearl izumi to be pretty generous in the strap area compared to others. All others I have are a bit tight, but slacken when 'in position'.0 -
I've just been looking for a pair of new bibshorts. First I visited Sigma Sports and found that the more expensive the short, the tighter fitting they were. I ended up getting a couple of pairs of B'Twin ones from Decathlon, a "5" and a "9". Don't be put of by the price, they are top quality and the FDJ team will be wearing the "9" shorts and jerseys this season.0

You should try Assos in XL as they are a racing fit, but going up a size provides a more "comfort fit."___________________________________________

You're a fair bit slimmer than me but the two brands you've listed are well known for coming up smaller than most people expect. Either size up one in those brands (and most other mainland Europe ones) or try other brands (Specialized for example are more normal in their sizing). If you're buying online from somewhere like Wiggle just order a couple of different sizes, it's free & easy to return the one that doesn't fit through the Collect+ thing.0

Endura, are friggin huge around the straps and a bit more forgiving around the waist and love handles .
Not that I'd need it, of course. I'm a racing snake........underneath.0 -
OP you could try Etxeondo Dicolor Bib shorts. Super stylish and really nice comfortable fit.

Don't hear much about Etxeondo on here, but the gear is quality.0 -

I'm 34 waist (5'11" tall) and wear large Assos, they fit perfect, I just don't see how the straps can be pulling too tight unless you're well over 6'. As previously mentioned you need to get into a cycling position before you know how they will fit, standing in front of the mirror isn't good for sizing, also this sounds like your first pair of bibs so get used to the idea that the lycra is meant to s t r e t c h over your body.0 -

I am about the same as you waist/leg wise, currently about 174/175 lbs, I have the Aeros in Large and they are OK with me. The charts say I could squeeze into a medium, but I previously had tried a set of Velocissimos on in both medium and large and the large was a better fit. I may regret it though if my weight loss plans ever come to fruition0
