... you've had the sniff of a new bird on the forum....

I'm working on the theory it's a bloke on a dress until I see pics to the contrary. Seems a bit dubious that an apparent woman is able to use a computer. Unless it's Mumsnet getting revenge.

Mark my words, where there's wimmin there's trouble. However, a bloke in a dress is an entirely different type of trouble.

Observe the similarity of this pic...

    Looking good Mike, look...ing good!

I too am intrigued by the reaction to having the word 'pink' in a username has had on all of us.

For those who question my gender... Just polished off a large Dominos all by myself. Just to mess with your heads even more.

Woohoo! With the Hebrides we're staying on the Uists (small group of islands, so we're not on the main larger islands). Have found that the Uists have a bike shop (just the one) which also does cycle hire. So I won't have to go for a fortnight without biking. :D

You're going to love it. If you're ever feeling lazy, get dropped off with the bike on Eriskay, then ride all the way up from Eriskay onto South Uist, Benbecula, Grimsay and North Uist... If you want to complete the chain, pop up to Berneray and get picked up. It's very likely that a strong wind will be blowing from south to north, and the road is pretty much a straight line in that exact direction. I had one of the best days on the bike ever doing just that, flying up the road with minimal effort.

Oh, and on a sunny day, riding across the causeways is spectacular and humbling!

^^ Of course, if you're going the other way the wind is a killer! There's no getting away from it out there.

If you fancy treating yourself, book yourself a table at the Langass Lodge on North Uist. Enjoy some very, very fine food and a nice selection of whiskeys.

And if you're an adventurer then go up to the top of North Uist and cross the sandflats at low tide to Vallay and have a scout around the deserted mansion house!

I love those islands! (P.S. Don't call them 'The Uists' to any locals)(P.P.S. You're generally okay doing stuff on Sundays but if you go on up to Lewis & Harris then you have to be careful as they still very much observe the sabbath).

Thanks again, sounds fab! I love the long days in Scotland in June. Might have to go for a midnight ride. :D

    Bike ride. :p

What do the locals call the islands?

Just call each island by it's name, that's the safest. It's the same up in Orkney, people get affy upset if you call them 'The Orkneys'.

+1 Amazing. It is also awe inspiring in bad weather (and if it is too bad don't go any further!)

Bumping to say a generic thank you to all on the forums - charity ride is on Sunday and I'm feeling sort of prepared. :D

And, go on then, here's some pictures of me:

There's one of me on my bike in the gallery (scroll down a bit). I know exactly what the first comment about my bike will be. :P

No-one has mentioned a roof rack. I am sure they make roof racks that can fit a Mondeo.

Do you go to the chariot racing in the ancient Roman town that is Colchester ?

How did the ride go yesterday?
  • pinkteapot

    FAB!!

Just over four hours riding time. 4.5 hours total incl. stops. 14.9mph average - gutted to just miss 15mph. Still, it was my longest ever ride and my fastest ever average! Previous best 14.6mph on my 45 mile training ride.

So much easier cycling with other people. Not just the physical aspect of hiding from the wind (I'm too scared to get too close to people!) but mentally. I thought I'd been going as fast as I could in training but I shocked myself yesterday and realised it's my brain that's been holding me back. Hard to keep the mental focus and motivation when you're out by yourself for four hours.

Was overtaken by lots of club cyclists but I'm dead chuffed with my speed considering I'm on a hybrid. :D
