I've recently started road cycling from mtb and have a Felt Z85. I've got a pair of shimano MT53 http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/publish/con ... ype-..html boots, can I change the cleats to support spd sl or am I better of putting my mtb clips less pedals on they are shimano m540's
At the moment I'm using the pedals that came with the bike, cages with straps

You can't put SPD-SL cleats on SPD shoes. There's nothing wrong with using SPDs on a road bike: enjoy the cleat life, double sided entry and ease of walking...0

aye new shoes needed if you want spd-sl, but imo its the best way to go, cant see past it, and comfortable
but simons right, if youre getting off your bike and walking at any point stay wth spd0 -

Many road shoes do indeed take SPD cleats, but all that does is make it difficult to walk and increases cleat wear; I haven't tried it because it's silly but I've read that it's even worse than walking on road cleats. The point is that shoes originally designed for SPD cleats won't take SPD-SL. Therefore, just use SPD and be happy.0
