Hi,

Opinions wanted.... I am a club rider who rides 50-60 Miles per outing, looking to do more 100 mile sportive this year culminating in the RideLondon 100 in August, anyhow I am looking to upgrade from my 2011 Trek Madone 4.5 to a Di2 bike. Been saving for ages and the budget is sorted at around 4k.

However there seems to be a few bikes out there with Di2 and just wondered what people thoughts are, i know that at the end of the day it comes down to personal choice but thought would be interesting to see what people thought.

My personal choice would be the Bianchi (yet to test ride), however the Giant Defy 2 won the Cycling Plus bike of the year so Assume the di2 Advanced 0 version would be a very good bike (but a Giant is a Giant bit too mainstream), Boardman is interesting like the aesthetics but think it's more of a road racer rather than sportive sort of bike. Also any other options are more than welcome to be added....

2013 Bianchi Infinito Ultegra Di2
2013 Giant Defy Advanced 0 Di2
2013 Boardman SLR/9.2S Di2
2013 Colnago CLX 3.0 Ultegra Di2 Bike
2013 Trek Domane 5.9 Di2

Thanks
Mat :D

If you're only riding sportives, just stick with what you've got.

I think Cannondale do a Di2 bike if I am not mistaken? In the supersix frame?

Stick with the Madone and buy some bomb-ass wheels instead.

That's the 2012. The 2013 is 9000 series Di2 and has Syncros RR1.0 instead of the Zipps.

CR1 is a really good bike, more upright and compliant than the Foil, but not as soft as a Roubaix as well as lighter.

back to the original - you don't really need Di2 for what you do, but if you have the money to blow, why not just upgrade current steed to Di2.

if you wnat to n+1 then teh Bianchi is the best looking by far :)

    Did you buy one yet?

I looked at the Bianchi, the Madone and the Boardman.

Trek and Madone were from the same dealer so no difference in customer service. The Bianchi frame was so god damn pretty but huge money with under specc'ed wheels and no celeste. How could you have a Bianchi that didn't wear some celeste? This was the most expensive of my list at approx £4.5k.

So on the the Trek and Boardman. I liked the Trek and they were similar in price. The Boardman had better wheels though (Elites) and when I had the option of having 2013 Force instead of Ultegra this sealed it. I'd had a Team carbon before so was happy that the quality would be good. I did really like the huge head tube on the Trek. It looked really muscular. Both frames are boxy rather than aero, but I was after a light, stiff climbing/sprinting machine, not a TT/tri bike. The Boardman was lighter than the Trek but not much in it.

The Trek Di2 installation was different to the Boardman and at first I thought I would have to ditch my Garmin cadence sensor as the battery on the Boardman goes where this would normally go. The cadence sensor fits under the battery though and the whole set up looks neater than with the battery being on the downtube or under the bottom bracket.

I didn't look at the Scott CR1 Di2, I know it's a great frame but they have made it too bland. With a splash of another colour on it, it would have been on my list.

Getting Di2 with 2013 Force was the USP for me. This set up was SRAM Red, last year and is lighter and stiffer than Ultegra. I also think it looks much better with the cut away chainrings and carbon cranks, but that's a personal choice.

Boardman's website quote 7.1kg for the SLR 9.2S with Ultegra in a double, with Force in a compact this comes down to 6.85kg and mine weighs 6.80kg ex pedals. With some 2012 Red skeleton callipers, it's a 6.5kg bike and as stiff as a farmhouse kitchen table.

    It's exactly what I wanted.

ETA - My girlfriend was looking at the same time and bought an Infinito with Athena. It is a pretty frame.
