Just had a wonderful couple of hours putting together this R3 for a good friend of mine.
He's picked some extremely nice bits, and it's been a pleasure having it in my garage while I built it up. Will be sorry to see it leave in a few days once his tyres, bar tape, saddle and pedals arrive.
Frame & Forks: Cervelo R3 Team in midget size
Wheels: Campagnolo Eurus
Gruppo: Campy Chorus
3T finishing Kit: Seatpost is currently as high as it will go because I don't want to scuff it up, will be lowering it once it's finished.
Pedals will be Speedplay Zero
Tape & Saddle TBC once the shops open.
Tyres are Red Striped Schwalbe Ultremo ZX
Cages are comtat carbon ones.

Lovely, hope some of those spacers go!I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

Got it finished early in the week, today is the first chance we've both had to get out for a test/tuning ride.
Took my opportunity to grab some proper pics.

A 'proper' bike........thank God! Looks well.......
(apart from that seatpost clamp and the bolt looking like it's from b&q!)0 -
There is absolutely zero chance of me keeping up with him now. Certainly not until my Rose arrives (hopefully later this week). I'm still riding the rockhopper on slicks0

Really really nice, not sure about those cages thoughI'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0

Haha, I said that to him too. Apparently, he ordered 1x black one with his gruppo and wheels from Comtat but they missed it off his order. When he contacted them, it was out of stock so by way of an apology they sent him 2 white ones and 2 bottles.
He has been told that he needs to remove the empty one though.
The Lizard Skinz tape is a bit of an acquired taste too. Really expensive, and a bit too thick for my liking.
The Antares Saddle is just insanely light too. It's so light I thought I'd ripped the rails off when I ripped the cardboard packaging off
I just wish my buddy wasn't such a midget, then I could have had a little test ride myself.0 -
That chorus looks beautiful!0

This bike is gorgeous and deserves some better weather so it can be ridden with impunity.
White cages are not great, I call it a case of "over-matching", but that's extreme nit-picking.When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -
Nice bike, is the frame a 48cm?Cervelo R5

It's an extra small, yes I think that's a 48.
Dude is a midget
I've opted for chorus on mine too, although I'm half the man my midget mate is. As such, I went for a compact, with a big cassette on the back
Never had campy before. Fully converted now though. The ultrashift stuff is just amazing, and all of it just looks fantastic.0 -
The wheels on that.... 8)0

It's a pretty personal question so don't feel as if you have to answer it, but if you do, would you be ever so kind to tell us how much that entire set up roughly cost? That's the total cost, including wheels, frame, pedals, etc. I'm sure it's already been calculated, so just after a rough figure.
Thanks0 -
I think it came to around £4k all in.
Oh, and it weighs 6.85kg with pedals.0 -
Thanks!
What actually is the difference between the R3 & R5? I know one is lighter, but is there anything else that separates them?0 -
Not sure.
Is the R3 not just an R5 designed for harsher riding conditions? (Paris-Roubaix)

Meant to post this, earlier...
If you look at what races the bikes have been used in by Garmin/Cervelo you get a better idea.
R3, cobbled classics, on the podium at Paris-Roubaix six times in seven starts—with three victories.
R5, lighter frame (based around R5ca), hilly stage races ,Volta Ciclista a Catalunya etc
