Croix de Fer-What weight is achievable?

I keep looking at the Genesis Croix de Fer frames as a winter training bike/commuter/potential tourer for when I eventually have such a bad day at work I pack it all and ride away!!

But I can't find a frame+fork weight anywhere. Anyone know? Also is there anyone who owns one that's built it up as a roadie to an acceptable weight? (I know it's never gonna be 15lbs)

My intentions would be to build up a SMALL frame 52cm with Hope hubs and road rims and Sram Apex. Thanks :)

    2009 54cm was 2.2 kg, excl. fork... http://kimharding.net/bicycle/genesis_croix_de_fer.php

    i'd guess ~ 3kg for the current frame+fork

    you could ask genesis...

I built my own wheels with Novatec 711/712 hubs, ACI DB spokes and Open PRO CD rims, shedding about 800 grams, then I replaced Shimano with Campagnolo that I had around... few bits and bops and we are at 11 Kg. I think 10.5 is achievable without going crazy.
First thing is the tyres and the wheels, mine were made of lead

I wonder how much lighter-or less heavy-a 52cm frame is. I'll drop Genesis an email as recommended above.

Eek 10.5 kg is still more than I had in mind! I've calculated that I could build one under 10kg with the components I already have going off an estimate of 3kg frame and fork. I would buy a frameset only

The frame set is more than 3 Kg. it will never be a light bike, no way, it has other advantages... With the right tyres you can deliberately ride on potholes for fun... I do it all the time...

I love my Croix De Fer, done 1000s of miles on it. I have 32c tyres and you can pretty much point it anywhere you like, road, tow paths, trails, it doesnt care. Its no slouch on the road either, it is relatively heavy so can be more effort up hills, but its good training for when I get on my plastic bike :D

Weight isn't that important IMO. As others have said, this bike has other benefits. I totally love mine - you can pretty much go anywhere on it with the right tyres.

    Brilliant bike.

If I can chip in, instead of Hope hubs, I would use Novatec 711/712... I have built a few sets of those but most importantly I have had them on my CdF for 18 months now. That bike gets ridden in summer/winter, on and a bit of off road too. They are still like new, bearings smooth as day one... I am totally sold on these hubs, which you can buy on Ebay for 90 quid, instead of the nearly 200 the Hope retail for. You can even convert them to run a Campagnolo cassette very easily, while Hope won't take most Campagnolo cassettes, even with the campag freehub.

Agree on the Novatec 711/712 hubs - I have them and Hopes, but it's hard to justify paying twice the price for the Hope hubs. I'd also go for a wider rim like an Velocity A23 or even a Stans Crest 29er - running fatter tyres tubeless is a revelation.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
