Just picked up a GT Chucker XS1 frame + cups and bearings + rear hangar for £40 :D

Ive wanted one of these for AGES! I just have a thing for GTs, as you can tell by my name, but the Chucker is in my opinion the best looking one, and the one i actually needed most. I wanted a jump bike so i could do some jumps in the summer, and now i have it.

Im going to build this up, Im in need of the following:
-Rear wheel that takes a rear disc
-Fork (dont know what size yet)
-Bottom Bracket (dont know what size yet, preferably square taper)
-Headset (i think, never had a non threaded headset bike before)

I have everything else that i need. But i might have to make do with a retro Altus crank, it doesnt have many teeth so it should be ideal for jumps anyhow. I will update this page as i go along. Parents are gonna need SHIT LOADS of convincing for me to get the parts. Since this is now the 11th bike...HAHA

Well, any opinions, tips/pointers, info, anything really will be appreciated. So here it is, my long anticipated GT Chucker! :D

Nice, I like the Chuckers as well (have an older steel frame in the garage right now), takes a standard 1 1/8th steerer fork, about 200mm will be right from memory (do check).

BB shell is standard 68mm English, seatpost 27.2mm, GT clamp is pretty light (I use one on my Kraken), ally frames need a 31.8mm clamp front mech (unless going single ring), steel 28.6mm.

As standard they were 2x8 speed.

Anything else, give me a shout!

Pull useable stuff off the other bikes. sell bits worth selling (you'd be surprised) , bin the useless stuff!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Phoar! Damn! Thanks alot with the dimensions! really helped me out :D

My plan is indeed to take parts from other bikes, then if i eventually get a job ill blow all my money on quality stuff later on :)

One question: How do i tell if this one does take 8 gears at the back?

Thanks again for the help :)

You don't, should have 135 mm dropouts so it depend on the wheel and gearing setup you use.

It is a 135mm, so you can fit any wheel with that OLD dimension, though for jumping you'd usually go single speed!

Ahh i see, ill ask more questions in the tech and workshop forum once i start building. And i was considering single speed, ill see, long way yet before i even start building her up. Hate having limited funds but an expensive hobby. haha

    Thanks :)

Definitely looks strong with that oversize tubing and monster welds :D

    Did your son like it?

Its gonna take me a long while and alot of money to get it working though. ive just remembered that i need disc brakes on top of everything else too...
  • What bits do you need? I have a heap of parts that I am looking to get shot of as long as you pay for postage

    Thats good news then :)

And i wish i had that sort of budget to get dt swiss wheels. Gonna be swaying towards the budget side of things until i get a job.

Not having any luck with getting my mum to buy 2nd hand parts at the moment. She only buys from shops...Ill carry on trying to convince her. If not, ill ask my brother to buy it for me and ill give him the money. Ill PM you if i have any luck.
  • I wasn't asking for any money, these are parts that I do not need and although good are not worth enough to bother selling... all i require is money to post it to you! I remember being in exactly the same position as you when I was younger (apart from I saved for over a year to buy some Z3 coils rather than scrounging off mum and dad :P ) so I don't mind trying to help out if it means somebody who is enthusiastic gets into a good sport

    Ohh cool! Thanks! :D

Well, what i need is the following:
-disc brakes, full set, but ill be happy with anything really
-rear wheel that takes a disc
    -a fork
    -a bottom bracket

thats what i actually need, but ill be happy to look at any other parts that you would be looking to give away :)

By the way, if i were to go about buying any parts, how would i pay for the postage? (sorry i dont know how this stuff works, apart from ebay shops obviously :D) just need to know so i could tell my mum. Thanks :)
  • Got some forks you can have, what type of bb do you need?

    Cool, thanks :D

And i need a standard 68mm English BB

    What are the forks?
  • The forks are Zoom and look like this model (but have 9mm dropouts, I can't remember the exact model number)

    zoom-ch-650sdh-26-suspension-fork.jpg

They look the part but have pretty basic internals (elastomer I would have thought) but structurally seem pretty well built! All alloy too and at least they would get you riding until you can afford some decent ones.

Fairly sure I have a shimano 68mm square bb, I will raid my box of stuff. What cranks will you be running?

I have a spare 160mm disc and I might have a basic cable caliper too that you can have.

What size post do you need? I have some nice seats kicking about too if you need one

Jheez thats one sexy fork! I love triple clamps! :D
I will need a 27.2mm but i probably do have one that will fit there, havent checked yet but i have quite a few that are unused.

As for the crank, ill be using this until i get something proper.

    Altusfrontbefore_zps3719ed13.jpg

Ill probably get something like an Acera crankset later on then remove all the rings and get a single slightly smaller one.

So your still willing to give away all of that for free as long as i pay for postage?
  • Fork looks nicer than it is, but it'll do for now i'm sure :)

Got some Truvativ Hussefelts with an isis bb and new wellgo pedals you can have, sod using those Altus things! They have a 32t ring already, just no bash (I'm keeping that for my other cranks)

Yeah you can have it all, postage via courier will be about a tenner. I return back to Suffolk next weekend, and so can post it all the week after

Been sitting down all day polishing her up while watching the F1 quali highlights. She is literally squeaky clean, :D

The picture doesnt do it justice but you can see the gleam on the frame on the left of the polish bottle. That Auri works bloody wonders!!! Great product!
