Wow, this is probably the most I have seen. Although maybe it is comparable to KBK when Stannard won.

I wonder what reasons these guys had to bail. The obvious one would be because they were out of contention so didn't fancy riding in those conditions, although you would have thought they would like to get more race miles into their legs before the big races.

No good getting ill for the sake of "race miles", besides, if you're truly out of contention, how do they differ from miles ridden in training at tempo.

Sorry about this but I was there, in that Gale force wind and rain to see a break of 3 with Stannard in it and he came third.

Yeah who knows, I am speculating. I was going to mention the illness risk, especially with Chavanel and now Contador out due to illness picked up from cold/wet conditions. Racing miles are different to training miles.

Thought it must have been something to do with the conditions for so many to bale

    Off Topic @ 2010 KBK
Apart from Stannard's ride the most memorable memory was that of those "Marshals" standing at their junctions without any shelter because they had walked there. Some were sat in their cars but I drove to the finish circuit only just before they closed the roads so the marshals had at least 25 mins to survive before a rider came in sight.
I'm glad he used his strength to solo to the British Championship but his problem is that Chavenel and the peloton know his strength to be his weakness. Maybe he could become the new Spartacus.

I think I should mention that Thor Hushovd was one of those two dozen finishers.

    That would be refreshing.

For those of us watching on TV, the most memorable bit was Stijn Devolder being taken out by a dustbin blown across the road.

I'm assuming Ian Stannard is the cycling equivalent of Benjamin Button and by the time he retires in his late 30s he'll look like Joe Dombrowski.

You mean the 2010 KBK that Traksel won and Stannard finished 3rd in?
Not comparable - that had only 26 finishers out of 195 starting....

    Yeah that's the one.

    And yes it is comparable.

Growing up in Milton Keynes ages you. This is fact.
