Despite some fairly terrible weather conditions, snow, sleet, rain and sub-zero temperatures, I was amazed at the number of people who arrived at Longleat House to participate in this sportive. Aside from the rather tedious queue to enter the grounds of Longleat the event organisation was top notch, it was great to see so many marshals and general public braving the elements to show their support.
The route presented many challenging climbs, and the poor conditions meant that the descents were just as challenging! After 65 miles (the 100 mile route had been cancelled) the hot stew provided by the organizers was gratefully received, I hope to return next year, in hopefully milder conditions!!!

I think the fact that the weather only turned to a blizzard close to the start of the race, most people were already physically or mentally there. Had it been snowing when people were getting out of bed and looking out of the window I suspect less may have started. I heard a figure of 80% of people started which was great given the what was decsribed as 'brutal' conditions. I must say I found it disconcerting and mentally tricky to see many people turn round and go back to the start withing the first 6-7 miles. So glad I didn't and it was a great feeling of relief to see the finish line!!0
