Im Buying my first serious bike today. in a few hours!

i want you to help me pick the better bike for my money.
i will be using this for long bike rides, maybe a few trails. an all rounder really.

we have the SCOTT Aspect 10

The RRP is 900.. so im guessing it must have some good stuff, i know the forks are decent :)

Cannondale trail SL 3 2011

The RRP is less on this one, but i really like cannondales.

If you could reply back with some knowledge id really appreciate it.
im buying either bike in a few hours so need as much help as possible.

Thank you for reading.
- James.

    I'd have the Scott.
  • Hope I help you by just expressing my personal preference. In this draw i'd pick the Scott. That said, frames are similar and forks are both coilsprung so little difference and adjustability.

The only other bike i'd consider at this pricepoint is a Kona. In this price (or any?) range they're easily the most fun to ride.

To be hones ti wuold dale out of those 2,

mostly because historically i have owned a dale and its was a first class bike, the frame build was beautiful at the the time with sanded welds that were totally smooth.. loved it!
  • thanks mate. what about the components? can u do a comparison for me?

I wouldn't. RS fork parts are easy to get. Not so sure about RST. That would do it for me.
    I don't do smileys.

The cube gets you an air fork, Formula brakes, 10 speed, 2 pc crank, named finishing kit - all in all much more future proof and easily worth the extra 100.

Prettiness - it is how it rides that really counts
  • my budget is 500, its rather the scott or the dale. im leaning towards the dale atm.

Personally I'd go with the Scott, but I think you're worrying a bit much. Like everyone's already said, there's not a lot in it, you'll not be kicking yourself either way. If you really like the look of the Cannondale then go with it, you'll probably end up upgrading and replacing parts in a few months anyway, and both seem like perfectly good frames for that.
  • im buying the scott now, only reason i can think of is better forks and the RRP is higher, lol thanks guys.

The Cannondale has the better fork, just to confuse you ;-). But both are good performers for the money.
  • Got the SCOTT. its amazing :) buy need a bit of help with the rockshox tora, the lockout switch doesnt lockout the forks. any ideas? must need tightening? i dont knowww
